Up North, Samantha Kane Moves Forward Samantha Kane, an Ontario-based STC member, has received the Global Traders Award on behalf of her firm, Kane-MacKay and Associates. The award recognizes Ontario’s top exporters and contributors to Ontario’s economic growth. Samantha’s Belleville, Ontario-based company is a technology consulting firm specializing in strategic planning for the telecom industry, and in the design and implementation of customer service environments such as call centers and help desks. The firm services companies in the manufacturing, utilities, retail, transportation, healthcare and media industries, and currently exports to the United States, United Kingdom, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Mexico. Specifically, the Ontario Global Traders Awards recognize the outstanding export achievements of the most innovative and successful small and medium-sized enterprises, leaders and students in Ontario. The Awards are coordinated by Ontario Exports Inc., the Government of Ontario’s export development agency, with support from their partners in trade. STC Consultants Hold Regional Meeting in Reno As part of an effort to encourage in-depth conversations on regional issues, and to meet prospective STC members, Diane Brown, Ed Moran, Pat Pittmon, Ken Kravitz, and Henry Baird, along with Diane’s husband, Dick, and Steve Snow, a 30-year Pacific Bell / SBC network engineer, met at the Peppermill in Reno on February 27. The idea for the session was the brainchild of Diane Brown and Beth English. The 4 1/2 hour discussion, followed by a lavish dinner, covered disaster recovery, complex VoIP installation issues involving the PSTN and how best to manage the development of a consulting practice in the face of five-year trends in the global telecom marketplace. A different participant led each of these three in-depth discussions. Afterwards, all participants were extremely enthusiastic about the experience, and, in a feedback session, discussed planning future meetings in ways that would improve on this one without taking away from the stimulating, closely-knit atmosphere of this one. |
