This is the time of year when many STC consultant members and VAC organizations evaluate expenses and determine how best to budget for the coming year. We may question our membership in various organiza- tions, including the STC. Are the benefits worth the cost?

For both consultant members and VAC organizations, hard benefits can serve as the best justification for membership renewal. In fact, involve- ment with an organization such as the STC on the basis that it might provide “good opportunities” will serve as weak support for sending in dues for another year when there has been no tangible, hard dollar revenue to show for the previous year’s membership.

Some Hard Benefits For

Consultant Members

For one thing, the past few years have shown that, for STC consultants, joint networking works. Here are just a few collaborations:

¨ STC past-president, Dale Mullen assembled a team of STC consult- ants to work together on a com-plex and comprehensive voice and data infrastructure project for the New International Terminal at San Francisco International Airport. Under Mullen, STC consultants Mauria "Mo" Bragin, Michael Rabb, Mac McCormick, Bob Wolf and Tom White contributed expertise to the project.

¨ STC past-president, Ivan Sin-dell worked extensively with Dorothy Lockard and Lori Thompson on a $100 million new-build project for Clark        County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada. This collabora-tion designed, specified, recom- mended and implemented a 300-site voice, data and video network that featured an        Alcatel solution.

¨ Henry Baird has formed teams that have included Dorothy Lockard, Gordon Darby, and past-presidents Ben Sanford

¨ and Ivan Sindell for work on two network analysis and planning projects for King County, Washington.

¨ Denise Munro has teamed with several STC consultants, includ- ing Les Spielman, Dorothy Lockard, Beth English and     Peter Eisenhut, for projects      involving expense auditing.

¨ Tom Brannen has teamed with past-president, Donna Parker, and also with Tim Proctor for projects in Georgia and Florida, respectively.
